Prior to Surgery→

Q. What happens if I do not have a responsible adult that stays in the building during surgery, takes me home and stays with me for the first 24 hours after my surgery?

A. For your safety, the surgery will be cancelled and will need to be rescheduled.

Q. Why does my responsible adult have to stay in the building while I am in surgery?

A. It is important that we get contact information for your responsible adult the day of surgery so that we can keep him or her updated on your discharge status.

Q. What should I do with my valuable if I brought them with me today by mistake?

A. Please leave all your valuables with your responsible adult.

Q. Can I spend some time with my visitors prior to going into surgery?

A. The preoperative process is focused solely on the care and safety of the patient. If you have a special need please let our staff know. For your safety and the safety of others we are limiting our visitors at this time.

After Surgery→

Q. How long can I expect to remain in the recovery area after surgery?

A. Patients recovering from routine surgery are in the recovery area for varying lengths of time. The average length of stay is approximately 1 hour depending on the individual needs of the patient. All patients must meet pre-established criteria for safe discharge. Patients may not feel completely recovered at the time of discharge. Home recovery is part of the ambulatory surgery process. It is not unusual for you to have some discomfort and drowsiness upon leaving.

Q. How soon after my surgery can my visitors see me?

A. We know that you may be anxious to see your friend or loved one after surgery, at this time we are not allowing visitors in the recovery area. An exception will be made for one parent of a patient who is a minor child.

Q. What if I have questions after I have gone home?

A. Both your surgeon/physician and the Center will provide written instructions for your care at home. A nurse from the Center will attempt to call you within 24-72 hours after your procedure to check on your recovery and answer any questions you may have. You may reach out to your surgeon or us at any time.

Q. Can I evaluate my experience at your center?

A. Absolutely! We encourage you to bring any experiences, good or bad, to our attention before, during and after you leave the Surgical Center. Please ask to see a member of our management team at any time.

Q. When I return home from my procedure, will I be able to resume my usual daily activities, such as caring for my small children?

A. If you’ve received anesthesia, you need to arrange for someone to stay with you for 24 hours after you return home. Check with your physician prior to your procedure regarding your schedule to resume normal activity so that you can make appropriate plans.

Q. Will the surgeon speak with my family after surgery?

A. Your physician may speak with you after your procedure; however, due to the effects of anesthesia you may not recall the conversation. Due to privacy and limited visitation policy the surgeon will not likely speak with family or friends.

Q. Can I drive myself after having anesthesia/sedation?

A. No. On discharge you MUST be accompanied by a responsible adult who may either drive you home or accompany you home in a taxi/public transportation.

Insurance & Billing→

Q. When do I pay for my procedure?

A. Uninsured or self pay (including cosmetic procedures) patients will be asked to pay for services before the admission date. Patients with verified insurance will be asked to pay their portion only on the day of surgery or when preregistering.

Do you offer financing?

A. We do not offer financing, or payment plans.

About the Surgery Center for Excellence→

Q. What are the Ambulatory Surgery Centers? A. Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) perform almost 6,000,000 surgeries per year. Patients who elect to have surgery in an ASC arrive the day of the procedure, have the surgery in an operating room, and recover under the care of the nursing staff, all without hospital admission. From pediatric patients to the elderly, both the patients and their families benefit from the comfortable environment of the ASC. ASCs are some of the most highly regulated health care providers in the country. Our ASC meets the State of Florida licensure and regulatory standards.

Q. Are you fully accredited?

A. Yes, The center was reaccredited in August 2017 by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) for another 3 years.

Q. What is AAAHC Accreditation?

A. Accreditation is a voluntary process through which an organization is able to measure the quality of its services and performance against nationally recognized standards. The accreditation process involves self-assessment by the organization, as well as a thorough review by the Accreditation Association’s expert surveyors, who themselves have extensive experience in the ambulatory health care environment. The accreditation certificate is a symbol that an organization is committed to providing high-quality health care and that it has demonstrated that commitment by measuring up to the Accreditation Association’s high standards.

Q. Is your staff at SCE required to have any special certifications? A. All of our staff members are certified in Basic Life Support (BLS). All of our nurses are licensed through the Florida Board of Nursing and are required to have certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Life Support (PALS).

Q. Who is responsible for obtaining my referral/pre-certification authorization prior to my procedure?

A. Your surgeon’s office needs to get your referral/pre-certification authorized if it is needed. But you are ultimately responsible for making sure it is here in time for your procedure, so that your insurance will not deny payment of your bill.
